Below are a few line I wrote concerning this work back in 2001 that I feel still holds true to the spirit of the work. The wall runs along side the Glasgow Expressway hence the name, Expressway.
“.... Expressway fits some where between myself and the world in which I live (contemporary art, Glasgow, being 40, desiring identity, searching for meaning, and climbing). It's a video showing something that I do. By this I mean that I go to this wall, sometimes twice a week, and climb along it. I enjoy it and in a way it is no different to any other activity that people get up to outside of their working routine. It is simply an activity that has meaning and satisfaction for me in itself. I get something from it. What is different is that I have chosen to make this video as an artwork and show it as such..."
