Les Francs-Tireurs
Les Francs-Tireurs : 2002.
The phrase 'francs-tireurs' was first used to describe irregular French combatants deployed during the early stages of the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871). The term was revived during World War II to describe the French Resistance.
The connection between the title of the work and the video is that the actual historic name given to this particular climb or boulder-problem is 'Les Frances-Tireurs'. The work attempts to draw parallels between the concept of the Franc-Tireur and the position of the Artist.
(For those interested in climbing, the boulder is located in 'Snells field' close to Chamonix and is graded 6a.)
